The
Ohio County Sheriff’s Office K9 Team was established in January
2006.
The department determined that the K9 would be a positive asset
for the community and the department.

The
K9 Team provides a number of invaluable support services to the Department's
everyday needs. The K9 Team is used regularly to search for
illegal narcotics, search for fleeing suspects, and building
searches. |
The Ohio County Sheriff's Office K9, named
Arie, is a Belgian Turveran that was specially bread for Police work. The
dog was imported from Germany and is Nationally Certified through ASCT
(American Society of Canine Trainers).
Arie is a Patrol Dog and certified in the
following

Narcotic
detection
-
Tracking
-
Apprehension

Arie is cared for
and lives at home with his handler, Corporal Tim Gessler. Ask
Cpl. Gessler, and he will tell you that the K9 is one of the
best partners a Law Enforcement Officer can have. Click

Arie was purchased
with funds donated by the Wheeling
Island Racetrack and Gaming Center, located in Ohio County, Wheeling,
West Virginia.

medical care is provided by Town
& Country Animal Hospital, Incorporated 831 Old Fairmont
Pike, Wheeling, WV 26003 |

The K-9 vehicle is
modified with special equipment to ensure the safety of the dog at all
times. |
