Concealed Weapon Permit

Applications are available for download above, or may be obtained from the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, 51 – 16th St., Wheeling, WV 26003.
Applications are accepted Monday – Friday (except holidays) from 8am – noon, and 1 pm – 3:30pm at the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office 16Th Street location.
Applicants must apply or renew in person, in the county in which they reside.
First time applicants will need to bring the following:
- Current West Virginia Drivers License (or equivalent) which must reflect your current Ohio County address.
- Proof of handgun safety course completion. All instructors must have their credentials on file with the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, and absolutely NO online courses will be accepted.
- Application forms may be completed prior to, or at the time of submission. Notary service is provided at no additional cost.
- The total charge of the application is $100.00, and must be paid in full when applying. We accept cash, check, and credit/debit cards. (A 2.9% service fee will be added when paying by card.) Fee is distributed in the following manor: $25.00 to WV State Police, $15.00 to The WV State Treasurer, and $60 to the Ohio County Sheriff’s Concealed Weapon Fund. Our office will submit your application, and all associated fees on your behalf.
Renewals - Same procedure as first time applicants with one exception: you will bring your current or expired permit in place of your training certificate. We already have a copy of your training on file.
Provisional Applicants – You must use the provisional form, and the total charge is $40.00. Other requirements same as for first time applicants. Provisional Permits expire on 21st birthday. Provisional Application can be downloaded HERE.
Change of address and transfers from another WV County - You must use the Change of Address Form, and present your WV Drivers License reflecting your NEW Ohio County Address. Applicants moving into Ohio County from another WV County must bring their WV CCW ID card with them. Concealed Carry permits from other states DO NOT transfer – you must apply as a first time applicant following the completion of an approved handgun safety course. Total cost of an address change for WV CCW Permit holders is $5.00.
Once the application is received, it will be processed within 45 days. Once processing is complete, and your application is approved by the Sheriff, you will receive your CCW Permit via US Mail. Permits are valid for a period of 5 years.
